Yes, I'm a bit OCD when it comes to cars. I'm working on that. I occasionally even take my lease cars through the automatic carwash. (gasp)
It's also a good idea (to avoid scratches in the clearcoat) to use two sponges (one for the body, one for the wheels). Also wash from top to bottom, as the bottom of the body usually has more dirt.

Exactly. I also use an electric leaf blower for the first drying and to blow water out of seams and mirrors. With a good wax / polish coat, most all of the water just blows off the car.
