New LS owner with questions
Hello all, I'm a new LS430 owner and must say it is the best car I have ever driven. That says a lot since I am a used car salesman who sells and drives a lot of high-end luxury vehicles. I recently purchased my 2004 Silver LS430 with 35,000 miles and have noticed a few thing that need some attention. First is my passenger outside mirror does not return to the right position when it unfolds. Instead it folds all the way out and folds over to the front fender. Does anyone know if there is a quick fix for this or does the mirror need to be reprogrammed or replaced? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If you still have warranty, have them fix it. Cost is about $560 if you had to pay. Do a quick search as that is exactly what happen to me but luckily it was covered. If not under warranty, try lubing it first to see if that helps, otherwise you can just leave it open and save the $$.

That just it, I am out of warranty and $600 for a mirror is a little harsh. I am open to buying a used mirror but am wondering if this will fix the problem. I know there is a Lexus service bulletin (#0405) about this problem and am wondering if anyone knows what it may say is the repair procedure. Are there any Lexus technicians in this forum that may be able to check?

The simple solution is just to leave them open; if you need to, give the broken mirror a push to put it back in the proper position and then put the switch in "out" position. The retraction of the mirrors matters in locations where the streets are narrow; not as relevant in USA!

I bought used mirrors on ebay to replace both of mine for different reasons. The used mirrors of course were not fully functional!! One had a burned out motor, other mirror was non dimming/heating. Anyways combined with my existing mirrors they were both rebuilt to complete and fresh painted for about $300. Now I have spare parts in the bin if I ever need more.

Yeah, I looked into the used car warranty. Since I work at a dealer they are willing to sell it to me at cost, around $1,500 for a full bumper to bumper for three years.
I think this is the way to go, figuring the mirror cost is $700 and labor another $150, I'm half way there anyway and still be covered if anything else goes.
