Question How to turn off "check engine light"?

How can one turn off the check engine light on a "95 LS 400? Yes, yes I know it tells me all soughts of neat things like I need a $1,000 convertor and I need to replace a $500 O2 sensor, etc. but I just want the light off for good. When and if my car runs poorly, I will then decode the ECU and spend some money. Is there a simple way to turn off light where it will not come on ever again???

Put a black piece of electrical tape over the light on your dash.

you better get it checked man, dont just ignore the check engeine unless you really know what it is, otherwise it might lead to 2000 dollar repairs rather than the 1000 dollar fix

Just drape a black cloth over the entire instrument cluster,
since you don't care what's happening under the engine, why
bother looking at at the TEMP/SPEEDO/ gauges as well.
This way you can drive until the the car konks out !

Honestly , I can't even think why some one asks that type of question?

Certain light combinations tell what the problem may be. I would determine what is wrong before eliminating the check engine light.

The other day I removed the intake piping and when I installed it, I neglected to plug in the MAF connector. When I started the engine up, it sputtered and died. When I plugged the connector back in, I got a check engine light that didn't go away after two start-up's. I knew this was a FI error code so I removed the fuse to the FI ECU for about 30 seconds. This cleared it. (I don't know how it is with the main ECU so I don't suggest unplugging that fuse. (Transponder key, engine immobilizer.))

Default Idiot light shut off

Just pull the fuse that operates idiot lights. Leave out for 1 minute than put back fuse. should clear for a while. may be able to just leave fuse out.

there is no fuse that operates just the warning lights, youl hafta to clear the OBDII codes which MAY be accomplished by pulling the main ECU fuse for a min.

The magic word here is light, light means a bulb.

I don't recommend it but you can just pull that individual bulb.
