Default so I lost my brakes today.

I didn't smash anything, but crapped my pants.

Came to a intersection brakes were fine, next intersection I had to really push down, to the point I had 2 feet pushing. I noticed the idle was choppy as well.

pulled over and popped the hood and my vacuum line to the brake booster was off.

so I slid it back on and it was all set.

I can't believe how hard it was to stop this car without power brakes!

That is scary. That is supposed to have a spring clamp on it, make sure the hose is good and the clamp is replaced.

I worry about that your problem may be the indication of a more serious problem. The line's pressure is usually negative and it is quite seldom to be disconnected even without hose clamps.

But the disconnection is occurred when a too much positive pressure is applied to the line.
What does give the positive pressure?

A positive pressure there is usually caused by the abnormal combustion of the engine.
A skipped timing belt, a backfire, a bent valve or others may cause a positive pressure. Is your engine running fully OK?

I am due for a timing belt.

But the engine seams fine, runs strong, and no check engine light.

Maybe the clamp is just getting weak? I was able to slide the hose with the clamp back on by hand with no tools.

Tomorrow I will take the timing belt cover off and give it a look.

Thanks for reply Yamae. That is concerning if there is a situation causing the hose to be pushed off. The vacuum hose to the booster slides on about 20mm and many fittings like that have a swell to further engage the spring clamp around the hose.

Omg! That is crazy i see this because mine did this last Saturday too. I did a little brake boosted acceleration run and had no brakes when approaching an intersection. My eyes almost popped out of my head. I was going to the movies and it barely was able to stop in the parking spot. I couldn't figure it out until I started the engine up again and walked around and heard the signature hiss and popped the hood saw the hose popped off, slid it back on and all was good.

You definitely need to find out the root cause of it and fix it before you upset. The problem will happen again.
