Yes they are reliable. My beater LS has 255K miles and still runs like new. Bought for $1600 and spent about $700 in parts alone with labor done by myself. Love these cars as daily. These cars are reliable but can be a pita if you cannot troubleshoot and repair most problems yourself.

Mine has 260K+ and still rides like it came out of the assembly line last week. Dropped on Megan tracks and very firm ride. I know there is a white LS floating around the web with 900K on the original engine, tranny, etc. I heard the new owner of it who just bought it is gonna try and take it to a million miles.
These cars are great. I don't want to take away from what others have said on here, just trying to keep things realistic so we don't wrongly pump up a car that can speak for itself just fine.
Good luck on the search,
Matt

I will say this, about two years ago I saw an ad on Craig's list for a white 2nd gen LS, the price was dirt cheap(I think less than 1000), I looked at the pics and the pic of the odo read over 470,xxx miles! I though that was impressive considering the ad said the car still runs. The car did look like it was neglected and had cosmetic damage.
If a Ls400 has been maintained properly its entire life, I believe they will go 300k on the original engine and tranny easily, and mabey even 400k and beyond.
