Easy way to check timing belt on a '99?
My '99 LS400 is at 126k. When I bought it the PO told me the guy he bought it from had the t-belt done at an Indy shop, but didn't have a receipt or a sticker. I'd personally like to check and see the condition of the t-belt, but after removing all of the plastic covers, it appears to be a major job just to get the timing covers off. Any tips on how to check it, or is it time to just nut it up and pay $1k to have it re-done?

First of all, search the topic. Removing the driver side cam cover at the front of the engine only takes a few minutes, and gives you a pretty good view of the belt, but only over a small area. Crank it a few times to see more. If you find any frayed section on the belt, it definitely needs replacing. This is not a foolproof indication, but it's better than just guessing.
