Default 1st Gen Key Remote

The first gen key remote has only one button. This button sometimes works and sometimes don't. First thing I did was to change the battery on the remote unit. May be the problem is at receptor, I am not sure. Where is the receptor located at? Is it on the back window or somewhere in the front?

The receiver for the keyless entry is at the left rear fender behind the trim.

The keyless entry on the 1990 LS400 I owned for 13+ years did not always work even when the car was new. It would never work in some places due to, as I was told, interference from commercial wireless building alarm systems. The range was very short - 5 to 10 feet. It worked best if I held the key near the left rear fender when I pressed the button on the key.

You might check the keyless entry ECU to verify that its "chip" is properly seated in its slot. I had the master keys and the matching chip replaced while my 90 LS was under warranty in an attempt to improve the reliability of the keyless entry and apparently the mechanic did not get the new chip properly seated. The replacement chip apparently vibrated loose and the keyless entry rarely worked during the last few years I owned the car. The person who bought the 90 from me diagnosed the problem and reseated the chip to get it working again.

The range of the keyless entry on my 2000 LS400 is awesome - well over 100 yards - which works great for rolling the windows down on hot days as I leave work.

Even the electric motor of the antenna mast interferes with the receiver... and since my antenna is broken , it goes on like rrr-rrr-rrr-rrr--rrr... for some 30 seconds during which time it is impossible to lock the doors with the remote.

Anyone have any recommendations for an inexpensive aftermarket remote system which would possibly give me the remote trunk lock as well? I found one on Amazon for $15 but it seems a little low quality...

And while on the subject, I would LOVE to replace my keys with new style flip-out fobs. Any solutions there or am I stuck?

BTW thats for 1990 LS400.

you can always just unplug the antenna wiring from the antenna housing so it stops making that noise. or you can replace the antenna mast itself very easily.

I replaced it already and it still does it. So next thing is - reconnect it to an already imprinted antenna on the rear window (used to be for cell phone and all LS400s got them AFAIK)
