91 LS400, I am attempting to replace the Cam Seals only, the crank seal and everything else in the area are brand new except the cam seals. I am following the tutorial at http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/engine/timingbelt.html
I am wondering if I could just stop at #17, pop off the 2 bolts, and then slide off the seal?

Are you asking if you can just partially remove the belt from the cam pulleys without pulling the crankshaft pulley or touching anything else?

I have done this on both my 87 Cressida and my 89 4Runner when i had to get to switch the cam pulleys around and also when i had to pull the center intake to get to the knock sensors, and in both cases when i slid the belt back on, the timing marks lined up perfectly again and i didn't have an issue.

Ya that's exactly what I'm trying to figure out, seems like I could just partially slip the belt off the cam pulley and put the new seal in then put everything back, would also probably eliminate having to mark the timing belt right?

as long as the cam pulley doesn't get turned and the other pulley's don't get turned, and the timing belt alignment is still fine once the cam seals are installed, then you are fine

just do a lot of marking of where everything is before taking it apart

if i you accidentally dump a load of oil/solvent/crap into the timing case, be ready to pull it all and clean it out/replace the belt.

belt is effectively compromised if you get more than a couple drops of oil or solvent on it.
