Question 1993 ls timing belt broke due to idler pulley bad HELP with cam ali

been to lexls and has great instructions for install but want to know about cam adjustment. How do I know if/or the cam will be 180 off when installing new belt.
I understand the timing marks and can find top dead center but thinking about cam, is it possible to to get this messed up or should i be safe knowing 2 rev of crank equal to one rev of cams so should not be a problem, meaning no way of goofing up cam as long as it lines up.

Help

As long as you line up the marks on the crank and both cams, you're fine, theres no way of goofing up. Also, the engine is non interference, so you can spin crank and cams independently of each other as much as you want.

Ditto what Och says. I just changed my timing belt on my own last week. Lots of good info in the attached links.

The exact thing happened to me and i printed out the article on lexls.com and followed it and my car runs like a champ and surprisingly found everything instock at oreilly's from the timing belt kit with pulleys, the tensionor, to the water pump (all of which you should replace while you're there). Spent about $500 or so. The write up on lexls.com is awesome and has every detail and pics of everything.

Good luck, I would recommend if the head gaskets aren't toast, don't bother wasting your time. Removing the exhaust mani's isn't that bad, just the overall build can be a little tricky. You will need the usual 8, 10, 12, 14, 17, and 19mm wrenches and sockets, as well as you will need a 12 point 14mm socket to get the special head bolts out, I got mine as Lowe's for like $4, not to mention screwdrivers, a hammer, pry bar, and the other usual tools. It's a bit more complex, but it can easily be done by most grease monkeys. Just make sure you have a good torque wrench too, and know your torque specs.

I think I bought everything from Toyota and spent a little over $600, to be the $100 is worth the reliability. Lexls is awesome, and a fellow Minnesotian.
