Freeing up some mpg, power, and sound
Been looking for some fuel mileage improvements from my '93. Took a look under the car and saw 2 cats, 4 mufflers and one resonator. So I pulled the middle mufflers, car got a bit louder but with regular driving it was barely noticeable. The next day I pulled the resonator, it wasn't a lot of a restriction but it was necked down and I had some pipe so I said screw it and pulled it as well. It got a bit louder, at the rpm spike just before shifting it sounds wicked, like an exotic.
Anyways, my mileage has increased noticeably, like I'm getting another 40k/tank-that's a LOT. It has a bit of a drone at 110km/h, but above and below its fine.
It seems a bit loose before the diff, gotta weld some hangers on, but here's what she looks like now.

Sounds like some 8% improvement, at best, not bad. How much louder is it - and can you hear it inside the cabin or only outside?
Do you think the extra noise can be helped by putting something that would absorb the vibrations from new pipes?

The MPG is pretty hard to tell as you really need to compare it back to back on the same run and same conditions! hopefully your new straight pipe exhaust isn't causing the neighbours to get up in arms over the noise )
