Power steering leak and blue smoke at startup
Hey guys,
I have been adding power steering fluid every couple days, and when I start up in the mornings a small cloud of blue smoke comes out, not sure if this is related. After I add the power steering fluid the noise from the power steering stops and the car is normal. The blue smoke stops after about 10 - 15 seconds, there is obvious leakage from the power steering pump near the bottom of it. Any ideas if the pump needs to be replaced or if its another issue. Thanks.

the blue smoke could be PS fluid being sucked in through the vacuum line, or it could be something unrelated such as oil from worn valve stem seals, etc.
the PS leak could be the pump, the seals between pump & reservoir, the high pressure hose, other PS hoses/seals, or even the rack (less likely) or some combination of the above.
if you don't get the leak fixed, you will be buying an alternator very soon!
if you are the mechanic type, the PS pump can be rebuilt, if you have more time than money, Lexus sells the seal kit
