Help with value - '94 LS, 73k
Hi all,
I've enjoyed my time in this LS but have recently been able to think about upgrading. I'm starting my research and am finding a bit of trouble with a good valuation on my current car.
It's a '94, silver over black, with 73k (yes, not a typo) original miles. 2 owners prior to me, with the Lexus online service records from the dealer (up to 68k, when I took ownership).
I've added a professionally-applied window tint, remote start, and have IS300 Sport wheels (although it's on the originals for the winter). I added the JDM-style clear/red tails, and front clear corners, but retained the originals.
She's basically in immaculate condition. One small dent on the rear quarter that should be able to be pulled, leather is not cracked or damaged.
The a/c started to blow warm this summer, I think it would be OK to recharge but have purchased a replacement compressor on the forum's advice, but it's not yet installed.
I spoke with one dealer who offered me $2k on trade and I told him where to shove it.
What are your experiences with shopping/pricing UCF10s in the current market? Edmunds.com showed me $5.5k on trade, do you think the market will bear that? What's a reasonable asking price?

Thanks in advance!

I'd say about $5,500-6,000 if you sell it instead of trade...problem is finding the buyer. Most people spending that will opt for a newer model with a little higher miles (around 100k)

I think you'd be lucky to get $5k, on the high end. frankly $5k is 2nd gen money, and while your vehicle may be "mint", it is a generation older than a '95.
EDIT: That price is if the timing belt was done at some point. if not, id say less than 4500.

Looks nice. As PD mentioned about the second generation LS's. My take is $3.9K-4.25K. Depends on how your local market is for these, may be higher or lower. If it hasn't had the timing belt done, knock off $800.
The fluids would have been done at the 60K service. On an 18 year old car, that sees under 5K miles annually, I get a bit nervous with aging fluid like that in there. Small stuff though.

That's great and all that it's in mint condition. But there's no way in Hell I'd offer what you think it's worth. It's just a first gen. If timing belt water pump, complete tune up including fluids, no power steering leaks and no worn suspension bushings, I wouldn't agree to anything over $2500. And even then, I wouldn't offer that much unless you agreed to drop it off at my home.
But who knows? There's millions of people looking for a shiny car who have no idea what they're looking at. Maybe you can con someone into buying it for more.

Thank you to the first three responders for your advice and perspectives. As for the last guy -- offer what you like, I'm not selling to you for that price.
Three guys who obviously have more experience and insight than you gave much better advice, and I don't appreciate your insinuation that I'm trying to "con" anyone into buying anything, when I asked for market values and clearly stated the few problems the car had.

i understand mikes7ke point. regardless of condition the car is still old but can be sold for higher-than-normal market value to the right buyer. you will have the better luck selling to a fellow member here as we are all more prone to shelling out more cash for a pristine vehicle over someone off the street. i would off $5k myself if i was in the market. it's a GREAT looking ride, low miles, with a nice color combination, and tasteful upgrades. best of luck!
