This is a car I'm extremely interested in buying. Everything in the car works electronically and mechanically. Synthetic oil every 5k. The 60k tuneup was completed, and has 88k miles total. It is nearly cosmetically perfect, with only a couple scratches. However, I some questions.

1. How much is a timing belt+water pump change including labor?

2. There's a recall on 1995 Lexus's for a starter and outside lights. Assuming this is an affected unit, and has not been replaced, can I still get the starter/lights replaced under recall(which is free)? I'm wondering if there's a time limit on recalls.

3. Is there a place I can view maintenence schedules for the 1995 LS400? Specifically I'm wondering if there are services from 65-90k miles.

4. For 7700, is this a good deal? I hope to become a happy lexus owner like everyone here, any help or insight on this specific model would be awesome.


EDIT: Another question.
The owners manual only goes up to 60k miles for service intervals. Once I hit 60, should I start again from 0?

I'd assume not. But likely it has been replaced.

You'd better to check the ECU ID.

95 models have a known issue in the ECU. After the high speed run then trying to stop at a traffic light, the engine sometimes stalls. This happens after the car is aged. It is a combined problem of the engine management and a newly programmed ECU can prevent the stall.

In case of the California model, the original ECU either 89661-50230 or 89661-50231 will be affected and the TSB says to replace to 89661-50234. But there is another new information that the number has been changed to 89661-50235-85.

How do you check the ECU ID? So affected units are 89661-50230 or 89661-5023. But the only ID that is bad enough to be replaced is the 89661-50234/89661-50235-85? If affected, is the repair costly enough to make the car an unwise buy?

Also, more responses on the water pump+timing belt would be nice that's a big factor.

I dont think you can see the ecu id without pulling out of the car. It is located under the glove compartment.
As far as repair, ebay has listings for a repair service that will flash your old ecu to the new settings. iirc $175

A timing belt / water pump will exceed $1000 unless you know a good mechanic that will cut you a deal.
