Hey guys,

I am putting on my stock springs after using lowering ones for a while. They look very similar front to back. I see there are 2 sets of blue marks on one set and red and blue on another. Does anyone know off their head which is which?
Otherwise, can someone with a 95-97 look on their springs and see what colors are front and back?

as far as i remember front and rear spring are completely different the base that seats into the shock are different diameter. Just throw the spring onto the shock if its' fits then that's it.

rear springs IIRC are also longer.

I know what you are getting at, and I am aware of the color coding that Toyota dose with the springs.

I just looked at my rears for you and cannot find the paint marks easily.

They have 15 + years of dirt on them.

I am willing to try again if you like but it may be a day or two.

If you do want me to look again, can you describe where the paint marks are on the springs?

Or maybe you can figure this out on your own by counting the spring wraps and look at the diameter of the coil.

The fronts I would think bear more weight and therefore might be a heavier gauge spring and maybe more wraps. ???????????????

Thanks guys. I have them already in the struts, so I will unmount them and check em. Think I have them wrong.

So now I have question for you.

How did you. Compress the springs to get the stut assembly put together?

I will at some point in the not so distant future need to replace my shocks and need to know of a good tool or way to do it.

You can rent spring compressors from auto parts stores. Started with that. Bought my own set at Harbor Freight for nice and cheap. Just have to keep them lubed while using it.
Is crazy cheap, but this is what I have been using. Works good.

I have an 2001 4runner that I put a lift on, and they are much heavier that these look.

The potential for a bad experience was too great so I didn't mess with them and bought the struts already assembled.

if you really aren't comfortable with doing it yourself you can generally take the shock assemblies (double wishbone cars don't use "struts" ) to a local shop and get them to swap stuff out for a reasonable price since they have the big wall-mounted spring compressors.
