Exclamation 02 sensor light after major repair??

First of all before whining that this is related a a post from 6 weeks ago, I will simply ask. I had the spark plugs, plug wires, mass air flow sensor, crank shaft sensor, ECM, water pump, distibutor caps new belts and pulleys and tensioners replaced after a **** poor excuse for a mechanic assaulted my 96 LS. mechanic number two examined it for 2 weeks before finding two bolts that hold the distributor caps had fallen down into the belts, chewed a spit out down at the bottom of the motor, therefor thowing the timing off three teeth. (the first uh, mechanic did the plugs, wires, and caps) now after spending about 1800 dollars the car runs like a beast again, idles like a sewing machine and it has 184000 miles. my issue is the check engine light has come on, never had before this, had it read at a shop and it said the 02 sensors or the catalytic converter wasnt checking out. I know the shop that did all the work tested? the cat converter and it was fine. is it a major pain to replace the 02 sensors? it dont seem like a terrible job, and i dont want to tak my car back to ANY shop after being without it for 3 weeks. as far as the cat converter its about 150 bucks to replace. i just want the check engine light out. and yes have thought of pulling the bulb out of the dash. any sane opinions are appreciated.

You want a sane opinion, wow. I doubt the O2 sensor is related to the past problems unless the wires got chewed up by the flying bolts. The O2 sensors aren't bad for the fronts. (main heated) The rears are more difficult b/c you need to lift the carpet inside to get to the plugs on the wires. I'm pretty sure the 96 is the same as the earlier models. Not related but, when the timing jumped 3 teeth, it didn't screw anything up internal? You got very lucky there.

dont pull the bulb for the cel..you will never know when something is wrong.

clear the codes, wait for It to come back on, and recheck the codes to see what they are.

and yes, double check the o2 wires for damge.
