Infamous Starter... LOL

it prolly is the contacts as well. heat increases resistance. the crappy contacts plus the heat is prolly the problem. had similar issues on my 85 supra, though i just swapped the starter with one i had laying around. if this works im going to rebuild all the supra starters i have and change them on all 3 of my supras. lol. they are actually easy to get to compared to the lex.

My non-removal "rebuild" is still going strong after 20 months now.

Sweet! I honestly hope this is the case with all. Just in my experience it has not been the case in other toyota starters.

well, i ordered a headgasket set as it was the same price as the intake and valve cover gaskets. this way i have other gaskets if i need them later and also the valve stem seals. ive got the 17th off and all the parts should be here by then so ill try to rebuild the starter and change the valve cover gaskets then. ill try to take pics as i go in case anyone needs to see them. im gonna try the leaving the starter on the engine trick like the other guy.

I (we) have done this on my old 97(2010) and on my 99 (2011), and have had no trouble on the 99 (2013)(still have it), but sold the 97, so I don't know... (mine would just click, and if I persisted it would finally start.) I have never had a starter to go out... I have now owned 12 LS400's.. this is just an update..
