Urgent help needed! Car jerked,Stalled for a second or less while driving on freeway
Dear all,
As I was driving my newly bought Ls400 94 last night on the freeway, I was pushing it a bit then while i was crusing back at maybe 70-80mph car suddenly jerked, From lost of power like if you turn off your ignition while driving, then here is what I see , lost power to dash , and the check lights come on and it was fine after a second or less . It drove fine afterwards but happened a total of 2-3 times last night . I need to know what this can be and how I can diagnose the cause, Please help!

Hello, well there is no one thing that stands out to me... But I would check the battery terminals as they like to corrode and cause funny issues. Check the battery cables, and wire harness. Fuel can also cause this sort of issue, I would check the fuel filter as well, but I don't think that it is going to be a for sure thing. Do the check engine lights stay on? When you say you loose power at the gauges.... Does that mean they just go blank, no lights, no signals, or does that mean that speed and rpm drop? This has never happened? It only happens above a certain speed? is it only when your tearing down the freeway, and back off of it, it does it? Can you narrow it down a little bit more?

OK, a few known issues here:
In the main fuse box, sometimes the terminals can get weak and become intermittently open contacts. You can test this by idling the engine, and wiggle the wires in the fuse box area, and you might get the same dying. The solution is to tighten all terminals and add some dielectric contact grease to each one to keep the connection closed.
Also, sometimes a whole new fuse box solves the problem.
I would check this AFTER I check the battery connections, however. That's usually the most common.
