Headunit Installation
I recently bought a clarion headunit for my 91 ls, today i bought a scosche 81+ toyota wiring kit, i hook up everything like i think i should but it doesnt power up, so i go to car toys to see wats up, when i go in there this guy tells me that there is no way of installing a head unit without over riding my amp which sounds abit difficult, anybody wanna explain to me wat this guys talkin about =P

Stock amp will only work with/for the stock headunit. Basically it will not work with an aftermarket radio at all. What you need to do is purchase another amp to g along with that new headunit. Trust me, you will be ALOT happier.

I used the factory amp with my aftermarket head unit, there's a different aftermarket harness that has RCAs in it.

That should be it. You'll lose the subwoofer unless you do some DIY wiring though.

i dont mind taking out the amp, i even have a pioneer 800w im planning on putting in but is there a diy on how to wire in the aftermarket amp in place of the stock one? plus the headunit gives off 50x4 shouldnt that be enough to power the speakers without an amp?

i got it going, turned out the ground wire wasnt well wired but it was bs how the dudes at car toys charged a guy with an ls over 500 bucks for his system and they made him buy an amp to replace his stock pioneer amp because they said it wouldnt work without bypassing it, i bought a 6 dollar wiring harness from walmart and it worked just fine, the only thing is that i dont got the stock sub working but i dont care kuz i jus put in 2 12s =]

My system died after about 3 days into owning the car. I dont know wat is going one but i dont get power to the aftermarket amp anymore. Fuse is not blown. I think its got to do something with the stock amp. Anyone has one laying around?

just so you guys know, the stock amp only powers the sub on a 1Ls whether you have nak or pioneer. door speakers are powered by the head unit built in amp. this makes it a lot easier to wire up if you know this.
