Cool brake pad spacers

Hi all, quick question. Just finished replacing lower ball joints, and now I am going to change my pads and rotors on my Lex ls400 95. I am a bit confused about the position of brake pad spacers. Right now they set up as follow: on the inner pad pasanger side, at the bottom toward the end of car, the outer pad the spacer is at the top. So they are positioned diagonally. However the chilton does not show them very clearly but from what I can conlude they are not opposite each other. They sit on the bottom of the pads facing the rear of the car. Can anybody clear this small issue for me either by explaining me how they go in or by a diagram or picture? Thanks guys. I looked at lexls diy website, his caliper is a bit different from mine.

Hi PureDrifter, thank you for repliying. No, the spacers actually sit on the top corner of each pad, holding both shims in place. They are like a small clips, each pad has one. I guess they hold both shims in alignment against the pads.
