Radio Install ????
I got my new unit in today from a seller on ebay. It is a 7" screen, dvd, tv, radio, cd, etc. I want to replace the factory unit. I went to competition sounds and they told me around $75 or so to install it. Said they had to bypass the amp and subwoofer. I am going to install it tomorrow myself. I saw the tutorial on http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/audio/headunit.html. At the shop, they said there was no harness for the car and the harness would be cut. Can anyone fill me in on this and give me advice before I tackle the job? Thanks!!!

hey bro im not sure if this will help but i ran across this tutorial for a Pioneer AVIC d3 install in a GS300....im using it as a research model for My AVIC d3 install to My LS400 when i get home in 2 months.
its not the exact same but this might give you some direction....
PD, Lexkost, AKxx, or anyone, correct me if im wrong, this tut. should apply for a 1LS.

offhand im pretty sure its NOT similar as the 2LS and 2GS share a similar radio setup but the 1LS is pretty different.

You need one that's for Toyota cars 86- and above. It's only 2 plugs, though some of the Scosche ones have 4 to work with older cars too. They don't need to "bypass" the subwoofer, the harness plug will just sit back there not plugged into anything.
BTW- 1LS is a bit different. Much easier. I don't think a write-up is even necessary. All you gotta do is wire up the headunit for any Toyota vehicle, plug it in, and you're all set.

I'm guessing your car is CD-changer equipped from the factory too? My Pioneer (with no CD) has 3 plugs into the back, not including the 2 antennas. The one that is used for the subwoofer becomes obsolete, and I'm guessing in your case, if there is another one for the CD changer, that becomes obsolete too.

Thanks pfantom. That answers my ? I had a feeling that was it but could not determine it. What about the antenna? There are 2 metal plugs, a small one and then a regular sized one?

Usually, the small one will work in the aftermarket stereo. It's usually good enough to get you full reception. You could also not wire up the power antenna wire (blue, I think) on your harness so that you can disable the power antenna from going up and down, since it's not really necessary.
