For those of you wondering if it's legal to tint that top strip here in Hawaii I could layer two 5% strips if I wanted to:

Transparent sun screening film materials which are installed, affixed, or applied along the top edge of the windshield so long as such materials do not encroach upon the AS-1 portion of the windshield as provided by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 205 or no lower than four inches below the top of the windshield, when measured from the middle point of the bottom edge of the top windshield moulding if no AS-1 markings can be found in the left or right upper margin of the windshield;

I have double limo tint strip with 70% ceramic tint on the entire windshield, I can look right into the sun without it blinding me. No need to flip down the sun visor, I say go for it if you want it.

According to the 2014 LS manual, there are rain, headlight and pedestrian sensors depending upon the options you have. My vehicle has all of these. Check photo (not of my car but a good picture to label). The rain sensor bounces an IR beam off the inside of the windshield, and the amount reflected is a measure of a wet windshield. Depending upon the sensors in your vehicle, it may not be advisable to apply a 5% tint, unless the installer cuts the film to exclude the areas utilized by the sensors or cameras. In my car, there is a black plastic housing around the sensors that is pressed against the windshield, so the tint film would have to be cut around it. People with a 5% visor tint should check the effectiveness of their rain sensor, which I believe is a standard equipment on all LSs.
