Transition from 430 to 460
I'm planning on trading in my 2003 LS 430 for a 2013 LS.
I have some hesitation about this plan, as I am still in love with the 430...best automobile I ever had, including other Lexus (3), Porsches (3), Cadillacs, etc.
Would be interested in the observations of others who made the transition, and their experiences.

the 430 has alot less tech to deal with.. so theres alot less to go wrong...the 460 was cutting edge when it was released.. but now i believe the bugs have been worked out... i say go for it understanding that the 2013 is brand new to the line hopefully its mainly cosmetic changes so the platform should be solid..
i'd expect minor glitches or issues but nothing major (but this is true of all brand new cars) the issues only come to light in real world usage... plz keep us informed

I think the craftsmanship and attention to detail for the 2013 is past the 430 and 07-12 460 based on the Hi-Res pics i have seen. The cabin has a more richer feel and you can see the quality of the materials being used now, I agree with the others the 430 is very laid back and the 460 is more engaging.

I just switched from an 04' LS430 to an 08' LS460. It's a HUGE difference. In my opinion the LS460 feels and looks more sporty, but it actually has way less driver feedback when driving it hard. Something I have noticed immediately though is that the LS430 seems to feel more solid and feels more "reliable" since all of the the technology of the LS460 is not directly affecting everything from closing the doors, raising & lowering the trunk lid, moving the back seats, or holding the brake for you at traffic lights. But please know I haven't had enough time to live with the LS460 to disprove these "feelings" yet.
I don't have a single regret over my "upgrade" though.

Consumer Reports Feedback on Lexus LS
I was looking at the Consumer Report notes for the LS. Looks like the '04-06 had very good ratings on all the areas (Engine, Trans, Fuel, etc) except Audio. The '07-'08 had several black eyes on "Major Engine" and "Electrical System" and "Squeaks and Rattles". On the 2009, poor ratings for brakes, paint, and power equipment. They rated the predicted reliability of the newer models 2007+ with an average rating and the 2004-2006 as much better than average. When CR starts to rate the LS with "Average" reliability, it makes me question if the Lexus has lost its way...
