Owner's Manual says you "can" go 7,500 miles and still maintain warranty compliance.

I would think it depends on the quality of the oil and filter you use and your driving habits. I'm not very hard on my car. I'll check the color, viscosity and amount of debris in my oil after 5k miles and decide then. I'll bet it'll be fine to go another 2,500 miles then.

The owner's manual says THAT? I admit I never checked...just assumed it was the 5000 changes as per my old LS430. I've learned to not OVERmaintain cars. I used to do that and it never paid off. Of course I do not UNDERmaintain them either.

You also have to wonder how long the oil filter will last. No need to change oil every six months if you don't use the car often. Once a year is fine with synthetic if you don't put many miles on. I have another car I use, so my LS doesn't have many miles on it... I wouldn't go over 5000 miles on the oil.

Why does the auto-computer-reminder-thingie do it's thing at 5000 mile intervals and not 7500 or not give a choice?

The maintenance reminder is set by your dealer service tech (or you) via the INFO screen. You can change this interval by selecting INFO/Maintenance, and re-programming the variables in there - very simple procedure. If your service guy keyed in 5000 miles, just delete that number and punch in your choice. Because the number counts down from the moment you drive away from the dealer, you can adjust this residual number by adding the difference you prefer. For example, for a 7500 oil change change interval, increase the number your tech plugged by adding 2500 to whatever number remains 'till the next scheduled oil change. So, if that number is say 3467, change that number to 5967. Some other items require dates, rather than miles. You can also adjust other variables in those screens to suit your particular needs, including a few personal settings (birthdays, appointments, meetings, etc...).

Actually i use Castrol Magnitec 10W50 for my car and i replace it ever 10K km (although when i drain it out, it seems still in very good condition)and i reached now 43K + dont forget our hot weather here in the middle east + sometimes i drive hard on it, i don't see any problem untill now and i also rotate tires every 20K and they seem to be untill now without any worns or anything, no engine sounds, noe high engine temporture, nothing.

and yeah by the way, i never took it to the dealer, bacause at the begining i told him i drive a lot and i don't have time to bring and keep it for a day or 2 to do the service, and he said the warrenty will remain if i change the oil and filter any way but nothing else.

so untill now, no problem with my car, except a little wind noise when its windy outside or driving head to head with the wind @ 160km.

a day or 2 to do a simple service?! are you kidding me?! we can do a 5K service in 20-30 mins. then we put it in clean-up and the clean up guys do there thing and your car is done within the hour.

for a 15k service, if i see you dont need tires or brakes or anything, just a straight 15K service, it takes me 30-45 mins. i hate balancing tires lol.

Boxcarfan, I had the oil changed today with Toyota synthetic OW20. You said I was wrong and Toyota doesn't have a synthetic OW20. The dealer said it's Mobil 1 packaged for Toyota.

Hey Boxcarfan,

Is this new oil requirement specific to the LS motor, or is it now required across all Lexus models?? I have an 07 GS350.

350 uses different oil to begin with, i don't think it's affected. it's the 460 engine that uses very specific and different oil

hmm.. i wonder why they are fussing at the 5w-20 over 0w-20.. basically the "same" oil.. just more fluid at startup/cold.. if your cold temperature isn't below freezing, i don't see the point on this bulletin..
and the guy using 15w-50.. wow..

and our weather is hot, 0-20 has no benifit we never see a freezing temp

lol thats the way it is in the Middle East, but im going to 5-20 for the winter coz it is cold ( 5C ) sometimes in the morning
