Flag Ship LS or LX
I've had both, but my LS was a 1994 back in 1996, great vehicle and seemed bullet proof. My LX's have been 2-2004's a 2005 and a 2011. So I have more experience with LX models for several 100k of miles. I know the LX models are one of the most dependable vehicles made. Toyota head engineer stated the LX was designed to last 25 years in a third world country. Love the LS but based on owner posts it does not seem Toyota is building them now as well as they did my 1994. Would like to pickup a LS460 but question if they are the vehicle I remembered?

Its still regarded as one of the most reliable cars you can buy. The early 460s have some trouble spots, control arms on cars 07-10 and brake actuators. If you get one with the new control arms (a late 2010+) you should be great. They do have more to go wrong, but then so does a modern LX.
My 2015 LS460 is every bit as good a car as my LS430 and LS400 were.

I'd concur on the LX purchase.
New they both are "roughly" the same cost, but the LX holds tremendous resale value advantages. While this is a few month old data, here in the Dallas area a CPO 2011 LX was mid $40s whereas used 2011 (non CPO) LS460's were in the $30s.
I think the sweet spot now is finding a pre-owned 2013 (if you are not purchasing new) in terms of value and modern amnesties.

The LX new is considerably more expensive than the LS. Yes the LS can be as expensive, but most aren't. You also can't compare a CPO LX to a non CPO LS. Just the CPO inflates values as much as 10-12%

In my experience and opinion I'd say the LX450 of yesteryear was by far the most dependable and reliable vehicle I have ever owned. I would guess that the straight 6 was the reason, not too sure how well a V8 would compare head to head. Sure there's a ton and I mean a ton of more on demand power but I don;t think I could ever get 300k miles out of an LX570.
With that being said I would feel the LS is considered the flagship and think you ought to grab one.

I'm not certain of the point of this thread. Do you want one of the finest sedans on the market or an eight-passenger behemoth to shuttle your lonely *** around town? Since I didn't need to shuttle around a family of five (or more) it was an easy decision to go with the LS.

I'm looking for reliability and dependablity. The LX470 was built to last 25 years in a 3rd World country and its normal for a 100 series to go 300k+ miles including off road usage with just normal maintance. I don't expect this from a 2013 LS460 but I would like to see 250k miles of trouble free miles with factory recommended service and not be left stranded. Is this reasonable?

Very reasonable to expect that mechanically. The electronics are another matter, but you would have the same issue in a modern LX
