Default Break In Oil?

I stopped at my dealer to check out a few questions on the operation of my new 460 LWB. After seeing a posting on doing the first oil change early (i.e. at about 1000 mi) to get rid of the initial stuff that comes with break in, I asked the service person whether I should do an oil change (I am at about 1400 mi.) I would pay for it ($80) and then use my free change and check up at the 5000 mi mark. The service person said I would be wasting my money, since they use a special break in oil for the initial period. I didn't see anything in the manual about that. Any suggestions? Seems like they wouldn't be telling me not to change the oil as a profit issue.

Thanks.

Am I correct that the recommended first oil change is at 5000 miles?

That what I thought but your message made it seem that a 1000 change was in order. I think on my prior Lexi they had a 1000 "check" which was really just a way to get you back into the dealership to help ensure customer satisfaction. Truthfully the hassle of having to go back for a mere "check" did not provide any more satisfaction for me.

Anyway, wait until 5000 miles. I've learned to maintain my cars exactly as recommended by the manufacturer....no more, no less, and things have worked out just fine for me. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I don't know about any "special break in oil", but special or not, you don't need to change it before the manufacturer specified intervals.

Decades ago some people did change their oil after 500 to 1000 miles because of leftover filings from the manufacturing process. Certainly under today's manufacturing processes that is a non-issue.
