How can I region hack the navigation on an LS430 2001
My problem began when I backed into a pole and damaged the panel near my right rear indicator which damaged my navigation module. The LCD screen in the console worked as normal for climate control and audio though selecting MAPS or DESTINATION yielded only a blank screen. I checked every fuse in the car (all good) then after getting nothing useful out of speaking to Lexus service centres I took the gamble and bought a used module (yes, the black box in the trunk where the maps DVD goes) from eBay for $50 from the UK (I live in Australia). This morning I got the package, plugged the module in and got a screen up when I pressed MAPS saying NAVIGATION and then a map from somewhere in England came up - so the module would appear to be functioning....Ok, moment of truth - I removed the Europe map DVD and replace it with my Australian maps DVD only to get a screen saying it could not read the disc. After removing the DVD and putting it in again the message changed to a similar type message but still no maps. A few calls to different Lexus service centres ended up with one quoting me $5000AUD (around $3500USD) for a replacement module and no hint as to whether the system could or couldn't be 'region hacked'. Has anyone had a similar experience, or more to the point, has anyone successfully region-hacked a Lexus navigation module on an LS430 or any other Lexus for that matter? How was it done? Can modules be repaired?
