Why does 2006 LS 430 have less hp then 2005?
2005 hp is 290
2006 hp is 278
Or at least that the info i found. Any thought? I find it strange that the last model year they would decrease hp? Was it for mpg or smog? Same engine:/

The US EPA changed fuel efficiency test methods in 2008. Maybe they applied the new methodology to previous years.
Canada's NRC also revamped their test methods to be more accurate and more in line with US EPA.. but this didn't happen until 2015.

I assume you mean the EPA rated / advertised MPG. Again, the method to test/calculate MPG was different in 2006. Rated horsepower went down in 2006, rated MPG went up. The actual MPG and horsepower for '05 & '06 LS is the same.
I have an '05 & '06. The 3UZ-FE engine is exactly the same in both. The MPG is the same. The horsepower is the same.

Actually, it was about that time that the EPA started checking the accuracy of the manufacturers claimed horsepower ratings. Some including a few Toyota models (LS 430) had a little problem. They then had to put the true ratings on the motors.
The positive side of this is that some of the motors today are actually under rated so they don't run into the issue again. Ford had a joke of a rating on it's Cobra four valve engines and was sued for damages by the car owners. Lesson learned.

Yeah, the owners had every right to take action, I remember that. And then you had Dodge putting out the SRT-4 that was putting down more whp than the engine was rated for at the crank.
