Buying 2003 LS 430 imported from canada
Hi,
I tested drove a 2003 LS 430 today and I was so impressed. I swear it rides better than the 2016 honda accord that we test drove prior.
The car was originally from Canada, dealership converted kilometers to miles. carfax report shows that too. It has/converted to 84xxx miles and no one knows if the water pump and timing belt have been replaced or not. Heater still shows the temperature in C instead of F (can this be converted to Fahrenheit?)
Anyway, we're debating whether we should buy this lexus for $13k or a new 2016 honda accord sport for $21974.
Which car would you choose?

How important are things like;
1)Warranty
2) Loss of value in purchasing a new car
3) Buying a 13 year old car with unknown history
You obviously will do better financially with the Lexus (insurance, car payment both lower on the LS) but there is something to be said about having a brandy new car.
I guess I would opt for the Lexus, just because I really don't want to get into a larger payment and the associated higher insurance premiums

$13K for a 2003 with 84K miles from a winter climate is high dollars. You could get a 2004 - 06 for that price from a southern location (points south of you like Oregon and California). That would be my choice, and recommendation.

also depends from what area. Winter climate is not any worse than scorching hot southern climates.
East of Alberta watch out for rust and really carefully check the undercarriage
I paid C$ 10500 mint 01 UL ONE OWNER, dealer serviced, 116k miles

these cars really only show rust on the exhaust (and if you pull the door panel, where the chrome trim is held onto the door). The price sounds really high. I paid 10.5 for my '01 with 69k miles in Nov 2013.
The whole point of the 01-03s in my mind is buying the deal. If you want to buy a nicer car, get the 04-06s. The 01-03s are still nice don't get me wrong mine is the nicest car I'll ever own, but the 04-06s are nicer and you can get into one for 13.5.
You live on the west coast, I think the LSs are a bit more expensive in Cali but the market is deeper. IF you can wait for the right deal, wait. If not, get an Accord or a new civic.
The new civic is one of the only cars I'd consider as a replacement, that 1.5 turbo has pretty comparable acceleration to the 01-03s, 50 mpg on the freeway is awesome, and the safety technology seems like a real winner in my book.

Thanks everyone. All good advise.
I finally found a 2003 locally , one owner, 76k, UL, and serviced at lexus dealer since new. Paid $12700 out the door.
Even though it's a 13 years old car, it drives super smooth and strong compare to the new Honda Accord. It has tons of luxury features that the new Honda Accord don't have. The best part is no car payment
