87 Octane Ethanol free vs Premium 10% Octane
I've been reading a lot of threads about 10% octane regular vs premium gas for the LS.
Since I have a non-ethanol station that is on the way to my daughters school I'm going to have my wife start filling up our 2005 Lexus 430 with 87 Octane non-ethanol and keeping track of the results.
I know the MPG will increase but am wondering if there will be any issues with knocking.

The ecu will retard the timing to compensate for an increase in knock. I doubt that you'll see much of a difference, plus the safety correction by the ecu will tend to burn out the catalytic converters faster than normal while saving the motor.

Ethanol raises octane but also produces more carbon buildup in an engine. If you can get ethanol free gas it's great but otherwise run a good fuel system cleaner like the Durba Lube mentioned. I also have treated my engine with Marvel Mystery oil and an oversized filter to help combat any carbon buildup over the years. About 3/4 of a quart mixed with Mobile 1 extended performance.

Pole Position
270K miles on CPO '01. 250K miles all on 87 octane. Never had any detonation issues, never replaced my cats (or mufflers) - > and the '01 has lived entirely in the rust belt (western NY, Michigan, Illinois, and now Nebraska).
