Default detail question

should a lexus or any car for that matter be rubbed out with rubbing compound before it is waxed? Looks like the previous owner didn't wax that often. Also should a car be waxed twice a year ? before winter and after ?Any comments would be appreciated

Usually a full detail goes in the following order: wash, clay bar, polish, wax/sealant. You can add a glaze in between the polish and wax stage.

There are few places you can get good detailing supplies. Amazon, Chemicalguys.com, Detailedimage.com, and Autogeekonline.net are good sources.

Check out the detailing section of Club Lexus. It's loaded with excellent information. Here is a link to it: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/aut...detailing-122/

It may be best to invest in a full blown detail. 2-3 step correction and possibly a glass coating if you are willing to do it. It would definitely be worth it in the long run. Autoality is also a great site to order from too.

I wouldn't personally use rubbing compound. I follow the steps above usually depending on condition of the paint. If it is bad then wash. clay, iron-x, compound, polish, wax/sealant. If not that bad, compound isnt necessary. It would be good to invest in a da orbital rather than doing by hand as well.

The finish is clear coat, which does not require compounding. Only use compound for light scratches, etc., where needed.
