Default 2003 LS430 - Anti Rattle Break Pad Shims

Hello,

I'm doing a brake job on my Lexus. The new pads are Bendix and come with a single anti-rattle shim plate. The old brakes have two Lexus anti-rattle shim plates per pad (inner and outer)

My idea is to discard the shim from Bendix and simply clean and transfer the old anti-rattle shims from the factory to the new brake pads.

Is this what others did?

Thanks.

Correct. Shims should not go bad. Just clean them.

Perfect. Thanks for confirming. They look okay - just some surface rust.

Late to the game on this one, but I would like to hear what other have done.

I went the other way, the replacement pads came with the anti squeal shims, The OEM shims are sitting in the tool box.

I haven't had any issues.

Pennies for thoughts......

If you didn't have any issues then it probably doesn't matter. I used Bendix pads and turfed their shims and stuck with the original Lexus shims. The Lexus ones had two shims per pad (inner and outer) while the Bendix only had only one. Didn't want to take chances. At least others will know now that it doesn't really make a difference.

Ha, I just did the front brakes and had the same dilemma. The Wagner ceramic pads I bought came with the shim on them and I couldn't get the stock shims on that way so I used the stock outer shim over the shim that came on the pads and put the inner shim in the tool box. They work silently at this point. I didn't want to remove the shim on the new pad.
