Question Steering Wheel Vibration when in Drive and Stopped?

What would cause a mild vibration in the steering wheel of a 2002 LS430? It only vibrates when the car is in drive and stopped, such as at a stop light. It stops as soon as you begin driving or put it into park. It's not bad but not normal for this car.

The car has 140k miles and had the variable valve timing solenoids replaced. It's a different kind of vibration though and the car was fine after the repair.

Thanks.

Hmm, I'm not sure, would like to hear more from our suspension people here.

I know the car has the feature where the steering wheel stiffens up the faster speed you are going. Sounds to me like that system may not be functioning correctly. Just a guess.

I would start with motor mounts then move to steering rack bushings.

I had a similar thing in my 2001 430. I thought it was the motor mounts but it was the coil. I got to know this when last week the coil stopped working all together. I changed the coil, now the slight vibration is gone.

As others mentioned, it's the motor mounts. Replace all 3.

Before motor mounts and all I'd start by the most simple of all - check your RPMs on the gauge, if they are lower than spec (I'd say lower than 6) then your shakes might be something engine related and the CEL is about to set, e.g. vacuum leak, clogged ports, etc.
