2003 LS430 - Headlight Levelling Alarm
Hello,
Well it seems my new LS is throwing up error messages faster than I can fix em. Lucky me.
I am now getting the "Headlight Levelling" warning. Anyone had this problem before? Going to look in the service manual. Just wondering what the common problems are here.
Any troubleshooting advice?
Thanks.

1) Change Cabin A/C Filter - part on order
2) Check VSC - part on order - Defective front drivers' side wheel speed sensor / wheel bearing
3) Headlight Levelling - unknown.
Fun.
Glad to hear this is minor.

Is this for the lever mechanism?

Is there any way I can troubleshoot which part of the system it's coming from? For the ABS warning light you can pull the codes by using a paperclip on the number 4 and 13 pins of the OBDII connector. However in the service manual the only way to pull the codes it gives is to connect a techstream scanner to it.
Is there any other way other than bringing it to a Lexus garage or randomly inspecting / changing pieces?

Look at the left rear sensor arm (driver's side rear wheel). Remove it and you'll probably notice the arm is rusted and doesn't move easily at the joint. You could try soaking it in a CLR rust remover type solution first for a few hours, before doing R&R. (You can drive car without the sensor installed - heigth of lights will not be aimed though.) Either way, use a bearing grease at the joint to staunch the rust process in the future.

The headlight leveling sensor that I replaced (5 1/2 years ago) (Driver's side rear) is part # 89408-50060. It listed then for $365 - my price $275 ... not a cheap part. At least it's easy to R&R though. Maybe try rust remover solution first (I wish I had tried that) before shelling out $300.

Is there any possibility of a short between the headlight levelling sensor and a left front wheel speed sensor? I'm asking because both of these lights come on and then turn off after some time. They never stay on continuously.

I think those are two completely independent systems. However, they both are likely affected by your climate conditions. I seem to recall that the wheel speed sensor alone can be replaced, or the whole bearing assembly with integrated speed sensor. I've only replaced the entire bearing assembly.
