Windshield replacement LS 430 '06
My windshield needs to be replaced. I just bought the car and a rock hit the windshield driving it home. I can't tell if has already been replaced. How can I tell if the one in the car is the original or a non OEM replacement? It says PGW solar green laminated but I don't know if that's a replacement or not.

jimbosr1, thanks for your reply. I see what you mean. All the other glasses say Lexus. I was concerned because I read that when you change a windshield that the car becomes subject to leaks and other things. Scare tactics by the glass repair people. So I was not going to change the glass until it got real bad because of those reasons. Since it's been replaced already those things are already breached. I have a 500 dollar deductable so I'll see if USAA will put a Lexus glass in for me. That's what I would prefer. Thanks, for your input. Retperio

My car has a replacement windshield, HY glass? I'm not sure, but our Scion also has this windshield replacement, I'm going to look into a Pilkington replacement in the future.

Original lexus ls430 windshield glass is way more than 500usd.... Should've checked it pre purchase mate...
Glass with bottom heating it 1000+usd and DO NOT settle for chinese knockoffs or any non-original. Your rain sensor will not work properly and you'll depreciate value of your car.

Windshield replacement
I had my windshield replaced via USAA; I paid the deductable and they covered the rest. USAA were hesitent at first about paying that much for a windshield, however; I insisted on OEM replacement only, i.e. the special tint on the OEM that the after market does not offer. My insurance and I only want what was originally on my Lexus.

I had my glass replaced a few years ago. Safelite came by for a chip repair which became a cracked glass during the "repair". I insisted on the Lexus glass due to the rain sensor and other stories I heard when using aftermarket. I got tthe Lexus Glass. It was expensive!!!! $2100.(no cost to me...covered under comprehensive with zero deductable) Make sure you get a new pad with the rain sensor. He also replaced the chrome trim around the glass with a new one. Good luck.

^^ Yep replaced my windshield with non OEM glass for a little over 300$ by the guy who does work for Lexus dealership. In the rain you can see that it's not oem but other than that I'm happy with it. Visibility is better then my oem glass that had a gazzilion tiny rock chips on it.

I called USAA and asked for an OEM windshield and they said no. The car was over 2 yrs old and they wouldn't do it. Said the OEM was 1700 dollars and I would have to pay for the difference even tho' I have a 250 dollar deduct and have been with them for 52 years. How did you get them to do yours? Retperio
