Park roll.

Park roll.
My driveway has a slight incline and when I put the tranny in my '03 in Park and then let off the brake it rolls back enough to cause a lurch when the tranny finally stops it. Is this normal? Maybe it is a Lexus thing as my wife's RX330 does this, but to a lesser extent. I know all auto transmissions will have some roll/play but the lurch w/ the LS is much more than my Acuras have had.
I know easy remedy would be to step on the parking brake before easing up on the brakes. Just find it odd on a luxo vehicle.

It sounds normal, park an auto on any steep hill w/o the parking brake will cause the car the roll back and lurch to a stop. Put the parking brake on before letting off the brake pedal so that the brakes are holding the car, not the transmission. Putting the car into gear should feel much smoother if you engage the parking brake first.

a heavy Luxo vehicle at that. it is recommended the the parking brake is applied on any surface to keep the weight off the transmission park pin.
