trunk light // car wont start?
OK so in a prior post i mentioned how i overpacked and ended up breaking my trunk mechanism that closes it shut automatically

well, anyways ever since that happened.. My car wont start when its parked overnight and i believed it was due to the trunk lights staying on since the sensor shows it as open.. Well i took out the 2 lights in the trunk thinking that would cure the problem..but it still has to be jumpstarted when it sits overnight.. Once its running the alternator charges my new battery.. but im wondering is there a fuse i can pull..or will that complicate things worse. Or will it not let me have acces to the trunk with the key/fob if i were to go that route.. I wouldnt even know what fuse to pull... any help would be great.. im tired of using the camry to jump start my lexus... thanks

i left one of my doors not fully closed overnite and apparently it killed my battery in my one car garage... couldn't get another car close enough to jump it, so i ended up getting one of these auto jump starters... about $50 or so.. highly recommend one of these things as it can't beat the convenience...
sorry, this doesn't address the cause of your problem, but it could certainly make life a tad easier/more convenient.

Sounds like you have several issues. 1) trunk wont latch. 2) switch indicates open and drains the battery.
Even with the trunk lights pulled, perhaps the latch motor is running or energized(trying to close the lid) and that is draining the battery. There is a fuse box in the trunk on the drivers side that you can access to start pulling fuses. They are marked. I would unhook the ground terminal on the battery and with a 10 amp ammeter in series, determine when you hit the right fuse to cause the problem to stop.
But all of this is just a band-aid. Take your car to a competent body repair shop. Explain what you did and ask them for an estimate. They know how to adjust these types of latches because they encounter them all the time. It might be something they can fix rather quickly and inexpensively.
