2004 LS430 Park Assist Sensor Bad?
As some of you may know, I just got my 2004 LS430 last week. The only "problem" I've encountered so far is that the person I purchased it from decided to do a quick "repaint" of the front bumper to touch up the nicks and scratches. The paint job wasn't the best, but it was OK - the problem is that one of the sensors got completely painted over. Today I took a precision exacto blade and carved the paint off of the sensor - it wasn't too tough. I then used Langka to take off the excess touchup paint, etc. This left a copper/rubbed copper "area".
The problem is that the sensor is still saying there's an object right there (i.e. it's being blocked somehow).
Here's a picture of the front, and a close up of the 'cleaned' sensor. Anyone know exactly how these sensors work, and why would it still show as blocked?
Thanks!

So how are you liking the new car? Do you get excited like I do everyday ready to drive it anywhere?
Ok so did the sensor do this BEFORE you scrapped the paint off?
Hey Moogy I think you've got the LS430 bug about as bad as I do. Why don't you PM me your phone number and we can yak about it for a bit?

Moogy,
I bought a CPO 2005 LS430 Ultra a couple of weeks ago and one of the things they did was replace a couple of the sensors. I think it was something like $135 but if I can find the paperworks I'll confirm for you. Don't know yet the 'how does it work' answer on this one though...

Hey guys! Yah the sensor was bad before I took the paint off (one reason I did take it off).
Yah I love the car - even more than my 2006 Z06. I just want to take care of this final glitch...

Right now I only have the time/resources for one car, and I needed to choose between something that was practical for both myself and my business. I loved the Z06, but it was noisy to drive and could only seat two. Difficult to host lunches and pick people up at the airport in a Z06
I LOVED the Z06 though, and highly recommend it to anyone who wants the most bang for buck fun vehicle out there.
I wish Lexus would throw a HUD in their cars - even the LS460 doesn't have it
