^^^^
The earlier LS's don't quite have the power and response compared to the '98+ LS400's. For example, my '96 LS would smoke my current '94 LS...response and acceleration.

I agree with timmytool's post.

well gas milage is up to about 20 id say. it no longer smells like im driving a boat, or a carburated vehicle which is sweet. but i still need to pass emissions... what do you guys think my cats only have one layer on the front two and the third is completely hollow. i didnt really do this intentionally when the geezer was dragging his exhaust behind him, the cats broke apart partailly i removed the lose peices but left the remaining honey comb each side has one layer. what do you guys think will i be able to pass emissions? in washington state? thanks again...

this forum is legit i have found all of my problems with lots of help thanks!

I'm not sure about your local smog laws but if they put a sniffer in the tail pipe you'll almost certainly fail with hollow cats.

this is clearly a topic still up for debate i will tell you that i did and you can and it does work. you have to wait untill the part is completly dry also this seems to be a older MAF there is no delicate wire.

but i understand to each his own...

see thats the thing i didnt do it intentionally the aren't completely hollow... initially there was two layers of honeycomb material but one layer was broken so each cat is halfway complete. we'll see i think i will try again today...

also in my quest for more ponys i have been playing with the exhaust.

i still have the resonators (till this weekend) but i removed the stock mufflers cut them open removed the inner baffles or restriction and welded them closed. i like the look of the stock exhaust. this doesn't sound too bad and it breathes better. i will post pictures here in a few. either way if i got cheap mufflers i would have to spend time getting the flanges welded... this cost me the welding wire and about 3 hours honestly its a PITA to gut a muffler...

when welding old stuff make sure to take time to get it down to bare medal. if you leave that soot and residue you will never get a good weld. also if ever welding anything on the car itself i like to un-do both battery terminals.
