Default Exhaust tips

While underneath the '92 I noticed the exhaust tips are gold underneath the black paint someone put on them to hide it. Are the tips removeable? And if so can regular chome ones still be bought? I have not seen any and hate to go to a aftermarket exhaust that have different tips. I like the way it looks from the back.

If they are gold its because its the gold package, the emblems on the front and rear gold too?

It had the gold package. The grille was swapped (have it in the garage) and the chrome wheels had the gold L in the middle. That dealership is only 15 minutes from me. I may ride down there. I'm not a fan of the gold but I don't think I would have painted them. If I can remove them myself I may try something to remove the paint and the gold.

you sure it's painted black? most of the time, it's just dirt collected from not being washed. the tips should come off if you remove or loosen a bolt.

Yeah, I'm sure. You can see where they didn't do a good job and paint the bottom and there are runs. Quicky spray job to hide all the gold. The PO swapped the grille, put on new chrome emblems on the rear and removed the chrome wheels. He obviously was not a fan of the gold package. Funny thing is I remember back then it was all the rage. I'll look for that bolt. I quickly looked underneath and didn't see one. If it is easy I can probably work with these existing ones.

The tips have a little tab on the rear center. I pushed that in and they slid off with a little force. I was able to get the black paint off with a little thinner but the gold plating took some 220 grit to remove. I polished them up and put them back on. Looks a ton better, even matches the machined wheels a little. Sorry, I'm not one for taking pictures of the progress. I like to jump on it and get it done.

That's a pretty smart way of saving some money and getting the results you were looking for. My kind of project. Thanks for sharing your efforts and results.
