Cars always over heat when the sun beats on them especially if they are black. Engine can over heat if the thermostat is not working correctly. Lets see it must be either a 1990 or maybe a 2000.
Start by making sure the radiator is clean you have to remove it to do that. I had one with a ton of sand between the ac condenser and the front of the radiator. Does it boil over? And how do you know it is overheating? Gauges and sensors can give a false temp reading. Thermostats can break, and it could be many things causing over heating, have you had to add a lot of coolant lately? Are the fans working ? Does it heat up when driving over 50 mph sustained? Does the car coast okay? Transmission is working good? No check engine lights? How is the gas mileage? When was last water pump change?

We need more info about the car. Year, miles and does it overheat all the time or under certain conditions.
