Automatic setting of alarm
Just wondering how to disable this. Started doing this a couple months ago. (Never in 7 years)
Symptoms: I shut off engine, open door and within 3 seconds the doors lock and set alarm. If I unlock the drivers door before I close it the alarm doesn't set. If I turn off engine and sit in car for about 30 seconds the doors lock and set alarm. So, when I unlock and open door, the alarm sounds.
The past 3 years I've used the key to lock and unlock the doors. (Due to dead battery inside key fob) Both door lock buttons are missing, since I've owned it, so they've NEVER been used. Sometimes when I turn key to unlock the drivers door it will lock again before I can get the key out. In that case, I need to open door while the key is in the unlock possition.
The other day at work I was near the car and I heard the doors locking and unlocking on their own. That was a few hours after I shut the car off.
This drives me nuts bc most times I dont want the car locked.
Is there a way to disable this? I cant find any helpful info when I search.
TIA

The key cylinder is worn and the contact material has smeared across the composite electrical contacts. You'll need to replace or clean that switch. I had that happen to mine when only using the key to manually lock-unlock.

Oops, forgot to say "It's a 93".
RA40: Thanks for the link to that page. It helped. Nothing happens with my windows but its pretty much the same problem. When I find some time, (who knows when) I'll clean the actuator. Then I'll get a battery for the key and only use that. Thanks again.

Some times when I turn the key (before ignition) the doors will lock. Other times, after driving with doors unlocked, when I turn ignition off they will lock before pulling the key out.

Welp.....the problem was not the key cylinder. Although that is a common problem with so many others....so I've read.
I was just about to tear apart the drivers door when I thought "Hey, what about the passenger lock?" I turned the key 3 times to the unlock possition in the passenger door. And now, all the symptoms are gone. Everything is back to normal.
Man, did that save me alot of time. Just putting this in as a follow-up for future readers.
