Lexus LS400 Premium Sound System No Back Light & Non Active Rear Speakers!?
Hi Club Lexus,
I recently purchased a beautiful 1995 Lexus LS400 with low mileage and full service history etc but at night, I noticed the buttons and the main display for the sound system on the dash isn't back lit at all. Is this something that needs to be turned on or is something wrong? Everything in the sound system is fully working from what I have checked. From the radio to the 6 disc CD stacker, it all plays and works great but I just need to turn the roof light on the be able to see what I am pressing as nothing on the sound system display is back lit. My climate control shows up beautifully via nice green back light even while it is off. Should the sound system not be the same??
Hope it is not an expensive fix if it is indeed a problem. But I am glad it still works great.
Secondly I noticed that both my rear speakers and left hand rear door speakers aren't working. Is this common? What could be the problem? Blown speakers? Faulty wiring? Hopefully it isn't an expensive fix either.
Thanks for all your help in advance. Loving this car overall! I wanted one since I was a little kid.

The back lighting is most likely out and there's a fix for it on the forum. Lust search for " LCD back lighting ". The speakers could be blown or there's a problem with the head unit or the amp. It's hard to tell at this point though. You need to investigate further.
