license plate lights

Except Billy on the earlier model you can't just remove the screws and pop the cover off it has to be done from the inside by removing the trim inside the trunk lid which is just held on with plastic clips (picture 1) and then reaching inside the aperture to remove the twist lock lamp holders.(pictures 2 and 3)
While you're in there fit some good quality LED replacements but check they work before reassembly as they only work fitted one way around unlike conventional lamps.

I had a 90 and just removed the plastic cover above the license plate and put led lights in. I did the same thing on the 92 that I now own.
There are just four screws that need to be removed, then pull the black cover out. After that pull the old bulbs out, put the new ones in, reassemble and you are finished.
You DON'T need to removed the lining from the trunk.
