Adding Seat Heaters
Has anyone tried to add seat heaters to a 93 LS ? I was suprised that my car did not have them as original equipt.
I've heard reports there are aftermarket kits that are "better" than original early 90's seat heaters ?
Apreciate any thoughts and/or info

I wouldn't do this.
If the heater is powerful enough, it will "burn" and damage the leather. The factory seat heaters are more complicated than you think. The heating coils are made out of special materials and they are covered by layers of carbon fiber and some other materials that protect the leather and prevent problems.
If you really "gotta have it" consider finding a used LS seat in poor condition (poor condition=low price), tear it apart and have an upholestery shop do the install. Make sure they properly insulate it!

Although adding seat heaters would be nice, it might be problematic, if it is even possible. Where would you put the switches for the heaters? It couldn't go in the middle area of the car. Just a thought.

Katzkin, a company that makes aftermarket leather upholstery, sells DIY seat heaters and seat massagers. Look under "Other Products" at www.katzkin.com. They have a 3yr/36K mi. warranty, probably on the heaters (not the leather you're putting them under.
If they heat up gradually, they shouldn't harm the leather. People were complaining about slow heaters, but that saves the leather from undue stress.

I've been reading more about aftermarket seat heaters since I saw this post. I would like to make my driver's seat heated, if possible. However, I have read in several places that if your car has airbag sensors in the seat (to determine how much the driver weighs, or if there is a passenger in the passenger seat), you will will be unable to add heated seats because they would interfere with the airbag functionality. My Lexus is a 1992. Does anyone know if Lexus have airbag sensors in the seats, and if so, what years? Thanks.
