I used a gasket from Autozone and it worked fine. I dislike RTV because it is messy and there is a slight chance of getting a piece of it inside the pan(when dried) if not careful.
The main reason for the RTV is that if the pan sealing edge gets bent, even slightly, the gasket is going to leak. Many warp the pan when removing by prying on an edge trying to get the old RTV unstuck. The new RTV can be gooped on which allows for a lot of slop and precise molding to the pan. So, if you suspect a bent or warped pan, use the RTV.

You want to finger tighten the bolts evenly (use a criss-cross tightening pattern, side-to-side to ensure even pressure). Wait one hour (use recommendation on the RTV package) to allow the RTV to begin to setup(cure). Then snug the bolts down with a torque wrench and add transmission fluid.

I know this is a major thread bump but in case anybody else does this job after finding this thread at the top of Google you should know Toyota FIPG and most other OEM FIPG should be torqued to spec immediately. In fact the 1282B FIPG specified for cooling systems with Toyota SLLC says you only have 3 minutes from the second it leaves the tube to assemble and torque it to spec. Failure to adhere to this means you have to do it all over again. It's also recommended to clean the surfaces extremely well. Any oil will keep the RTV from sticking and cause leaks. Once everything is set correctly wait a full 24 hours before filling with fluid. Almost no mechanic bothers with the last part but if you're doing it yourself you can afford to wait.

Let me know how it goes id like to do the same. Toyotas never use traditional gaskets they always use fipg even for their water pumps lol. I’ve heard of people have good luck with regular gaskets. It looks like such a pain in the *** to clean and prep the surface of an oil pan perfectly for fipg, it just constantly gets more oil/fluid on it
