Breaks Vibrate above 100mph
Hey all
Well finally all of my car service is done and the car uns very Fast and smooth. I have replaced all filters and fluids, 4 tires, timing belt, water pump, pulleys, sensors, struts, and a full tune-up. The car is just awsome, cause everything is new now.
Well I have been doing some high speed highyway driving and have discoverd a stong vibration in the brakes when breaking anywhere above 80-100 mph. I just got on the highy and got to 120mph with no trouble at all but when I started applying the brakes the vibration was a little concerning. At normal speeds the brakes feel fine. Sometimes I get some vibration but rarlely.
Anyways I can not afford doing the brakes right now sence I just spent $2,500 on all the stuff I did but in a couple of months I can get it worked on.
Well let me know if this is common or just a common ware issue. I did read somewhere that the rotors on the 1991 are thin and should be replaced with rotors for a 1992.
Thanks All
Jerry

ignoring the fact that you are going 120, i will say that you might have a slightly mis-aligned front rotor that is very obvious at higher speeds.
edit: oh wait, did you have your tires rotated during the service too? they might have inadvertently IMO hit your rotor

Just curious...how many speeding tickets do you have? You say that you went 120 like you do it every day. I think the problem with the brakes probably has something to do with excessive speed. Don't think they were designed for that.

I have no speeding tickets in the last 10years. I am a very careful driver and only go fast when traffic alows.
I have only put maybe 1,000 miles on the car sence I just bought it so the brake problem was not caused by me.
It may sound crazy but my local highway speed is about 80mph on a regular day. Thats on the Florida Turnpike. If I take the Sawgrass the regular speed is 90mph, so hitting 100 or even 110 is not that hard.
Also to let you know I drive with the Cruis control 85% of the time. I hate people who weave int raffic to be the first in line so I am NOT some kind of speed deamon.

I guess it's different down there then...here the traffic moves along at about 80, but I hardly ever see anyone going 100+. Maybe there are less cops enforcing the speed limit there.

I also have that problem...it gets to be so bad when at brake at high speeds that my shiftknob also vibrates back and forth....and when I brakes when going downhill in reverse my brakes tend you grind but they hold perfectly...I've came close to accdients by careless motorists and I've braked and it's held up pretty well....

if everything on your car is fine. the rotors and everything then it might be this
since no one had said it i will say it. ITS YOUR ABS BREAKS KICKING IN. it thinks your tires are gonna lock up so it repeadidly taps your breaks really fast and feels like your breaks are shaking
