does any body know how to up grade
the navigation system in 98 LS 400
i have a 99 version want 2002
delar wants $700

 

I am in similar situation. The best thing to do is wait till Fall for the 2003 release so that you only pay once and get the most up to date version. I am waiting for Lexus to release this version so that I can upgrade my 1999 Nav (July 1998 release). A local dealer here asked for $740 for the upgrade which I will gladly pay for when this becomes available.

 

Damn they really gouge you on the updates. Are they DVD based navigation systems? I doubt it, no way they can charge $700 for a disc. Must be hard drive based right?
Man, if you guys had a friend working at the dealership they could probably hook it up to their computer and update it for free.

 

But we are at their mercy. Just yesterday I was going to a friend's house and I relied on my Nav system to get me there. Trouble was the house was newly built (2000) and after driving aimlessly for sometime, I was forced to ask for directions

I wish I know someone in a Lexus dealership so that one can get thos done on the cheap. BTW, the '99's come with hard drive-based, so updating will be a simply update of the hard drive. Shouldn't take that much time or effort; but we are talking of Lexus dealerships here, and they aren't the most forgiving when it comes to gouging their customers !!

 

That really sucks...aftermarket nav systems have MUCH cheaper updates and they are just new discs that you pop in. No idea why they put hard drive systems instead of DVD (maybe they started that recently, the Acura nav systems are dvd-based). Probably so they could charge $700 for an update

Just thinking...if it had DVD updates and they costed that much, you could get together a few people to buy one and make copies with a DVD burner (doesn't everyone have one already?). Oh wait that would be illegal
