1UZ-FE Hot Rod Swap?
What is the most horse power a 1UZ-FE can make NA and still be reliable? I have been looking at building up a hot rod and want a different V8. What got me thinking is Honda makes the V8 that runs the Indy 500 Cars, and my 1UZ-FE runs up to 6000RPM. It's very smooth and good power and with the engineering and design behind the 1UZ-FE I thought it might be a good engine. Also is there a manual tranny that will adapt to it? Does Tremec make anything that will bolt up? What are your guys thoughts? I would like to see a Lexus powered muscle car. Is there a better Lexus option V8 that can be had from a junk yard?

The UZ valvetrain is good to 8,000RPM, according to some experienced tuners. It's the manifolds, particularly the lower intake manifold, that severely restrict flow and make it pointless to do so on a stock motor. The camshafts are also rather lame and need a regrind to a more aggressive profile that'll boost power.
Note, the stock VVTi 1UZ-FE heads flow about as well as a race-ported non-VVTi motor's heads, so it might make more sense to figure a way to make the VVTi 1UZ work in your application It would require a custom ECU but would probably offer the best, most reliable gains.

Yes, but not really the most accurate, but he does have some information on there, you have to remmeber he is a businessman. He is not a machinist, technician, engineer, etc, etc. I hate to say it though, but the 1.5UZ was done a while back by Ed and the boys over at v-eight.com. Although 300rwhp sounds nice, again I am skeptical that you would see as much as a 75rwhp from .4 liter increase from the 3UZ to the 1.5UZ. As the GS430 tuned at 230rwhp, stock, your going to a heavier block, heavier rotating assembly, 2 bolt mains so on a dyno you won't notice that too much, but when your driving your car it will be heavier so it will take more horsepower to achieve the same goals as before. One way I would compare this is to the Chevy LSx guys, most people who had an LS1 have now purchased a Iron truck LS motor, bored them out to 408, and beefed them up. It can be very similar results, however you are taking stock parts and putting it on a stock block, with no real power adders. Yes, the 1.5UZ is a good idea, but for all that work, why not buy an LS2/3 and put it in there an be at 400hp to start with....? As the saying goes, there is no replacement for displacement... So even with 4.7 liters, your around 289ci, which is what was in like 60's-70's mustangs and Hi-Po cars, now ford has a 427 modular motors, chevy has a 454 sbc, and even dodge has a 426 "hemi", hell even the new 5.0 DOHC V8 puts down close to 450hp out of the foundry and it's NA, it was also built to allow boost in which a supercharge can be fitted in an afternoon, us Toyota/Lexus owners are screwed...

TTC made a V160 plate, though the whole adapter and clutch assy. was NOT cheap (>$1500-2000) plus the V160 trans plus getting the engine management to not own your face if you're running an OBDII ECU.
W58 conversion kits can be had for ~$1000-1500, but that's complete including the adapter, steel or alum. flywheel, clutch, and everything else needed aside from the cheap trans.
the cams are a big restriction in the 1uz, as is the very conservative factory tune.
OP: you really need to search more, there is quite a lot of UZ performance discussion on CL, and of course, Lextreme and V-eight.
