Hey everyone
I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Chappell and I am the recent (proud) owner of a 99 LS 400. It's a bit of a shock after driving a Chevy Cavalier for 10 years. I just bought the car Saturday and had it checked out by Lexus. There are a few things that need to be fixed. The transmission mount needs to be replaced and there is a cam leak and valve cover gasket leak. If someone could tell me are these things that need to be repaired asap? Also do you take your Lexus to a dealership or a local mechanic? I live in Nashville and am not sure where to take it other than the dealership.

welcome! I recently bought a 99 LS 2 months back and replaced the valve cover myself. Parts are inexpensive (under $60) and all I did is take the plastic engine cover, coils & spark plug tubes and some hoses to get to the valve cover. the gasket is rubber and easy to install, you should be able to do it in 1-2 hrs...took me that long since I cleaned the covers while it's out...

Welcome! Very nice clean car. I would have all the repairs done sooner than later. None of them are very expensive so why not. I never take any of my cars to the dealer for anything other than warranty work. Find a local trusted knowledgeable mechaninc and let them do the repairs. I can't stress enough that you do your due didligence regarding a 'trusted knowledgeable' mecahninc.
You may even find that the dealer made the repairs sound worse than they were. I had my '00 LS checked by the dealer before I bought it and they told me I needed new brakes right away. I found it strange because they felt and worked fine (no squeals etc.) I then had my local mechaninc check them out and he said they were fine. That was 13k miles ago. Still same brakes. I don't trust stealerships.
