Exclamation Cat installed after all four O2 sensors?

Well I bought a 92 LS400 and I noticed that the two stock cats have been removed and and pipes welded in its place. Now there is a cat but it is just one and is installed in the middle of the exhaust system I believe a resonator used to go there.

I am just wondering if that is okay or not. I have been told on OBD I cars the rear O2 sensors really don't affect it anyways but don't know how reliable that was. I am getting the car smogged soon and don't want to waste money if this will cause it to fail anyways.

Oh I am not pulling an engine light as of right now but than again where is the CEL located? Maybe mine is burnt out that's why I can't find it because even with just the key in shouldn't there be some sort of CEL as like a test?

Thanks in advance

If all else in the engine is running fine, the emissions test may not show the removed cats. I'm suspicious and would suspect you will get higher readings on the rollers. It will obviously fail the visual and constitute a modified system. You won't be given a break on repairs since it has been willfully modded.

Who did you buy the car from? The seller is usually supposed to do the smog unless you agreed otherwise. My suggestion especially in Cali is get the cats and O2 sensors put in before you smog it. If you take the gamble and it is caught by the inspection station, the report will be on file. You won't be able to register the car until all is fixed and passes. This will be $$.

The legit inspection stations all have looked under my cars to verify the system.

Cali spec LS400's have a 3rd cat. placed where the resonator is on non-cali versions correct?

If the car has a test pipe in the space and the bung holes for the O2 sensors are still there, any good muffler shop will be able to put in good cats. That will be the least expensive route. There are posts around here where to buy the O2 sensors. Now if they removed the O2 portion of the pipe...

There are a few threads on good muffler shops in So. Cal section, you'll have to do a search:

There are test pipes installed and yes all O2 bungs still in factory location. I guess now I just need to find a good set of OEM cats. Any place online you recommend to buy from? Thanks again
